Like each other carpet as well the Hereke Carpet should be vacuumed together with the very normal cleaning of the flat. If you have the possibility to beat your carpet, what is the most gentil and efficent method to clean a carpet, you should do that about every six weeks. And if you in winter further find the possiblity to beat your carpet in fresh powder snow (with the “face” downwards) and after that to brush the snow from either side, you will be surprised about the fresh and brilliant colours of your carpet. That you also can do in a grassland in summer.

Because that today is not possible for each of us, you should vacuum your carpet with low power and on both sides, but without pression – always only in the direction of the piles, never against. Smaller formats you could simply forcefull shake.

Every 10 till 15 years you should bring your Hereke Carpet to a professional carpet launderer, to let him washed completely. Please do NOT bring it to a Chemical Cleaning.

Stains or other dirty points should be cleaned by using a light soapsud. Give a little amount of normal soap in a bowl with cold water in it. The dirty point then wash with a clean sponge or a soft brush. After that you have to remove the soap completely with a clean sponge and the carpet has to be dryed on either side.

As all other textiles, also Hereke Carpets should not be overexposed to intensive sunlight, to avoid a fading of its colours.

As well you should avoid to use your Hereke Carpet in rooms, which are too warm or, even worse, are wet.

Please rotate bigger carpets from time to time, so that on the one hand it could not develop “Pass Streets” and on the other hand carpet moths do not get any chance, to hatch their eggs, because the larvea would destroy your carpet without fail. It needs two weeks from the egg deposition till the eclosion of the larvae. So that you should rotate your carpet at the latest once every two weeks.

If you would like to store your Hereke Carpet, please pay attention to adequate aeration, dry and cool room climate as well as cleaning on a regular basis. A Hereke Carpet for the best should be stored in a horizontal position. If you should store a larger carpet, please roll it in the direction of the piles. Reel the Hereke Carpet in other not pilling textiles, that is mellow and avoides wrinkling or even destroying of the fabric. Above these textiles you, of course, could use additional other materials, if you think it were needed.
